Chemu School wins drama contest

Chemu Senior High School has once again emerged winners of the annual drama competition dubbed ‘Sankofa Drama Competition’.
The school was adjudged winners in last year’s competition.
Labone Senior High School and West African Senior High School took the second and third positions respectively.
For its prize, Chemu SHS will embark on a fully sponsored trip to Kakum Park. The school also received a certificate of honour and a plaque, while the second and third winners received certificates and souvenirs from sponsors.
The competition run for three days, had 13 drama groups representing their various schools.
Each school had a unique way of acting and they performed various drama’s such as Betrayal, At the verge of death, The broken shell, Heir of the past and The rise and fall of king Bambo.
There was also an exciting section where some students took to the stage to dance while others mimed the songs of some hiplife artistes.
In his opening remarks, the Director of the National Commission on Culture, Mr Michael Attipoe, called on government to help strengthen the drama industry in the country. Adding that it would not be a bad idea if specific programmes were put in place for the development of drama.
He said that when the sector was strengthened the society could be educated through drama on topical issues concerning the country.
He was hopeful that when the competition spreads to the regions, it would eventually turn into a national drama festival to get more children interested in literature.
Mr Attipoe also observed that there was the need to create avenues in the educational system that would make students more creative and innovative.
